PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland Pilots senior 1B C.J. Cullen and junior OF Craig Smith have both been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSida Academic All-District 8 First Team. Cullen and Smith are now eligible to earn Academic All-America honors.
Cullen is a computer science major with a 3.99 cumulative grade point average. The native of Seattle, Wash., is also minoring in mathematics. He is the reigning West Coast Conference Player of the Month and he leads the Pilots with a .378 batting average. Cullen also has 31 RBI’s, 33 runs, five doubles, a triple and three home runs. His defense has been stellar as he’s made just three errors all season for a fielding percentage of .991.
Smith is majoring in mechanical engineering and boasts a GPA of 3.69. A native of Cut Bank, Mont., Smith leads the squad with 10 stolen bases, while batting .301. He also has eight doubles, a triple, 17 RBI’s and 24 runs scored. The center fielder has yet to make an error in 188 career chances for a perfect fielding percentage of 1.000.
