Well, that is that. The Netherlands were just one game short of making this trip that much more of a dream come true for me, but I can't complain too much about Spain winning either. I spent the days leading up and following the final down in Cape Town. What a beautiful city. Right on the Southwestern coast with beautiful coastline and small mountains. I would very much recommend this city as a leading vacation destination in SA.
Overall opinion of the 2010 World Cup? A huge success. I will admit that as far as skilled, amazing, breathtaking soccer goes, this tournament fell short of those in the past. But the shear amount of unpredictability that arose and never knowing who might win on any given day made this year one to remember. Also, while only one of the many African teams advanced past the group stage, I believe that all the African teams in the tourney showed that they are not the pushovers that they have been known as in the past. I was especially impressed with the South African team. They played two very good games against two very good teams. I believe that if they can build off of this experience they will continue to rise in the world of soccer.
So now I spend a few more days in Joburg before my return to the states. While I have loved my time in SA, and plan on returning whenever I can for another visit, the journey back home will be a very welcome one. I have made new friends here, but also miss those I made at UP. I hope you have enjoyed following my adventures and I hope I painted a colorful and vibrant picture of a country that I have fallen in love with. If anyone would like to talk more about the trip or have any questions about SA, feel free to contact me... I probably won't get tired of talking about this for a while to come.
Here is to a journey of a lifetime and a safe return for all those who traveled.

Ps- does anyone have an open job position in Portland I might apply for?
