Hello Pilot Fans -
First and foremost, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Sarah Griffin (Also known as, Lil’ G, Lil’ Z, G, Griff… anything works.) and I am looking forward to keeping you all posted with what is going on with the UP Women’s Basketball team!
I was born and raised in Portland, and to be completely honest I wouldn’t be surprised if I lived here for the rest of my life. Some of my teammates complain about the rain, especially Keisha (Junior from Houston, TX) who has her handy little umbrella with her at all times, and Alexis (Junior from Phoenix, AZ) who wouldn’t be caught outside without her winter/rain jacket. Really though, it isn’t that bad. :)
Anyway, like I said, I am from the area. I graduated from Jesuit High School - class of 2009. Last year I couldn’t have been more excited to rock the purple and play at the Chiles Center for my hometown university, but unfortunately, due to a back injury early in the year I had to sit out. Luckily, I was able to use my medical red-shirt, meaning that I’ll be around for four more years!
Although I learned a lot last year from watching, after sitting out this past season I’m extremely pumped for the upcoming season. I know my teammates, coaches, and staff share my same enthusiasm and are looking forward to having a fun year and playing some great ball! LETS GO!
Official practices do not start until Oct. 3. In the meantime we have been keeping busy and working hard in the weight room with Coach Jay. We also have individual/team workouts with the coaches, and been playing open-gyms.
In addition to workouts I’ve also been trying to squeeze in as much sleep as possible! The next 11 days I’m going to take full-advantage of sleeping-in because as soon as Oct. 3 rolls around snoozing past 6:45 a.m. will result in some unpleasant consequences – lots and lots of running… or maybe the 2-minute tip-drill… or possibly the dreaded “drag your finger tips around the court” drill! (I will have to fill you in on Not-Top Drills another time.)
Due to our team’s scrambled class schedules the only available time for us to practice is 6:45 a.m. – bright and early! So Fans, when you’re rolling out of bed, eating breakfast, or on your way to work in the morning, think of your dear Pilots hard at work in the gym!
Well, that is all for now. Hope you all have a great week and I’m looking forward to catching up with you all later!
Sarah
