Women's Hoops Blog Entry #2: Amy Pupa
Friday, Sept. 30, 2011
Sophomore Amy Pupa here to update you on what’s new with your favorite Women’s Hoops Team. As G previously said, we had an awesome summer together building camaraderie and chemistry on and off the court. Adjusting to the life of a collegiate student-athlete quite the experience, as I’m sure our four freshmen will tell you. Kari Luttinen, Jasmine Wooton, Colleen Olinger, and Cassandra Thompson are the newest freshmen on the Pilot squad, along with transfer Erin Boettcher. All of the newbies were here this summer, and studied hard in the library! If you ever saw Philly (Colleen) during summer school, she was probably sprinting from office hours to class to workouts to dinner. We like to keep busy here at UP. Here, you can see (left to right) Kari, Colleen, and Erin working very hard.
Back to school for women’s hoops means back to work! Preseason weights and conditioning has been very productive this fall and we have certainly seen some great progress. Working with our new strength coach Catherine Wade (Coach Cat) has taught us that “can’t” is no longer a word, and we have recently earned the privilege to listen to music in the weight room! We also began individual workouts with the coaches (Welcome Coach Cheryl and Coach Jasmine!) and open gym during the week. With all that on our plates, sometimes there’s nothing better than a nice cold ice bath to soothe our sore muscles.
Even with all this hard work, we still like to leave room for some fun activities. We have had some super cool potential Pilots (recruits) come pay us a visit here on the bluff! Coach Sollars and Miss Pam were kind enough to welcome us all into their home recently for some team quality time. We played games, reconnected with our childhood on his homemade playground, and of course, did what we do best…ATE!!! Below are some pictures we took on that glorious day.
Other things we’ve been doing to stay busy include playing on the slip n slide and celebrating birthdays! The fun never stops here! We begin official practice Monday (Oct. 3), so wish us luck! One of my teammates will be updating you soon. Thanks for reading and for your loyal support. We love our Pilot fans! Stay purple, Portland, and GO PILOTS!
