Mazel Tov mis amigos!
We have just boarded the Portland Pilot bus and are on our way to the UW tournament as I type. I’ve got to admit this trip is not starting the way I had imagined. First, I left my sandwich in the locker room, and then I realized I had put my Bose headphones and iPod in my bag below the bus. Lack of food and no music...what could be worse?? Maybe being surrounded by sharks in the middle of the ocean with a profusely bleeding arm, or being forced to spend the entire day with a hysterically crying baby, but I really can’t think of much else. On top of that, the traffic is slower than molasses, and at this rate we’ll arrive by midnight. But, I can’t let any of this faze me. I’ve always been taught that the best teams learn to deal with whatever situations come their way, and acclimate I must. Oh wow, things are already getting better. Take a look at this beautiful body of water and all the ships sailing on this fine day (taken as we cross the bridge into Washington).
The UW tournament really is always a pleasure. The trip begins with everyone boarding the bus and sitting in their assigned seats. Everyone is very particular about their seat and if anyone takes someone’s spot then it really would be worse than my current situation. Naturally, the cool kids sit in the back-I’ll let you guys guess who we are-and the other unfortunate fellows sit in the front with the coaches and staff (just kidding our coaches are soo cool, I wish I sat up there!...).
After everyone gets settled in, Garrett provides us with a few DVD options to choose from. Cruz was the selector for this trip, and she went with season 1 of Modern Family, one of my personal favorite shows. Regardless of the movie/show choice, the majority of people use the show as background music. I usually gaze out the window, listen to music, play solitaire (on my iPod I’m at $10,379 dollars, if anyone is better than that let me know, I love a challenge), and think about doing homework. But that thought often quickly fades and I get back to staring out the window. Some of my greatest life questions have come from pondering in this exact spot: what does squirrel poop look like? How does same difference and no difference mean the same thing? Why do we never see baby pigeons? Where does your spit go when you swallow? The list goes on. Some of my teammates spend their time differently. A large portion of people find incredible ways to contort their body in their seats and take a nap. Taylor Brooke and Ellen Parker provide a great example of this:
Some browse the internet on their phones and we have a few brave, studious souls who do their homework:
A+ for Sippy. Keep up the great work!!
Oh lookie there, the traffic is clearing up and our bus is on the move! After a win against the Ducks last Friday, we are eager to keep the momentum going. We face two tough opponents this week in Fresno State, and La Salle. Thanks to the Pilot faithful who are making the trek up to support us (shout out to my wonderful mom and dad, but not my brothers) and we’ll do our best to bring a pair of victories back home to the rest of you!
Life,
Kendall
