SEATTLE, Wash. --- The No. 21 Brown Bears scored once before the half and added two goals more after the break to hand the Portland Pilots a 3-0 loss at the Husky Classic at the University of Washington’s Husky Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Bears went a perfect 2-0 on the weekend to capture the 2012 Husky Classic team title.
The Pilots drop to 2-4-1 on the year, while Brown improves its record to 7-1-0.
Eric Robertson began the scoring for Brown when he buried a shot from the middle of the 18-yard box in the 13th minute. The ball fell to the feet of Robertson on a corner kick, and he found the back of the net to give the Bears the early 1-nil advantage.
The Pilots would remain within a goal until the 47th minute when Thomas McNamara capitalized on a good feed from Tariq Akeel. McNamara’s second goal of the season gave the Browns a 2-0 lead.
Bobby Belair then put the game out of reach when he took a pass from Voltaire Escalona, turned, and planted a shot into the netting. It’s Belair’s second goal of the fall, and it gave the Bears a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Bears held the Pilots to four shots on the afternoon, while attempting 15 shots of their own. Both teams had three corner kicks.
McNamara nabbed Offensive MVP honors for the tournament, while Washington’s Dylan Tucker-Gangnes was named the Defensive MVP.
The game was the last non-conference match of the year for the Pilots, who open West Coast Conference play against Gonzaga at Merlo Field on Wednesday night. Kickoff between the Pilots and Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m.
San Francisco then visits for a league game at 7 p.m. on Friday.
