PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland junior forward Kaila Cameli is the U.S. Bank UP Student-Athlete of the Week after a three-goal performance during the weekend. This marks the second straight women’s soccer player to nab the honor, after Amanda Frisbie was named the inaugural student-athlete of the week last week.
Cameli scored three goals as the No. 13 Pilots split a pair of games at Merlo Field. On Friday night, Cameli scored twice in the second half during a 3-0 win over Seattle U. Then on Sunday, Cameli tallied Portland’s first goal before the Denver Pioneers came from behind to defeat the Pilots.
Cameli’s three goals came on just five shots, and she has scored three straight goals for Portland. Her offensive outburst during the weekend gives her six goals on the season, which ties her with Frisbie for the team high.
Cameli in the Pilots have just one game this week, a non-conference tilt against the Cal State Northridge Matadors at Merlo Field on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
