GREETINGS Pilot Fans!
Â
First and foremost, I would like to formally introduce myself to all you Pilot fans from far and wide. My name is Kari Newton Luttinen (yes, it rhymes) and I am a junior guard #23 from Seattle, Washington. Other nicknames include Karniss, K-Lute, K-money, K-swish, Kar, Newt, and much more…  When I am not playing basketball, I enjoy golfing, fishing, and hanging out with my family. Anyway, back to the important business, I am pleased to say that I will be keeping you updated on all that is Portland Pilots women's basketball this season! So, I will give you a quick update on our exciting journey thus far.
Â
This August, we welcomed freshmen Hannah Mattson, Kaylie Van Loo, and Stefania Sideri into our Pilot family from across the globe! Hannah, "Hans" as we call her, hails from the north, as her home is Alaska. Kaylie (Loo, Van Looness, Louis Vuitton, etc.) is from Hillsboro, not too far from her home here on The Bluff. Lastly, Stefania, or "Stef", calls Athens, Greece her home, as she joins sophomore Sara Hernandez (from Rome) from across the ocean. And of course, we have our wonderful, beautiful, stylish, sophisticated, classy, ballin, swaggy upperclassmen returning for the season. :)
Â
Redshirt junior Cassandra Brown, "CB", also returned after a year away due to injury and I am pleased to report she is fully healthy and doing her thing out there on the court.
Â
Corey Hojnicki joins the family as well, coming in as our new athletic trainer. Not only does Corey give a mean ankle tape job, but he's also a hooper himself. And tell me why his swagger is nicer than any other trainer in the game?? Â Just the clean cut definition of a baller:
Our 2013-2014 Pilots:
As non-conference is coming into full swing, your Pilots have been busy both at home and on the road. After a solid home-opening win versus Eastern Washington, we have had some quality bus trips down to Eugene as well as up to Seattle. Before a big win at UW, the team spent some QT at my crib in Seattle. HOW CUTE ARE WE?!Â
Now, your lovely Pilots are busy focusing on upcoming match-ups versus both Columbia and Oregon State. Friday November 29th, we host Columbia University here at the Chiles Center at 7pm. What better way to work off your Thanksgiving meal than cheering hard for the Pilots?! Hope to see you all on Friday or next week for some good basketball. Until next time, deuces!
