• An online video stream will also be provided on TheW.tv.
Â
LAST WEEK
• The Pilots went to Spokane, Wash., last weekend and defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs, courtesy a PK with only seven seconds remaining in regulation.
• The penalty was awarded after Allison Wetherington sent a long ball forward to Kimberly Hazlett, who was able to get past the back line with possession; she was then clipped from behind inside the 18-yard box, prompting the head referee to point to the spot.
• Wetherington then stepped up and found the back of the net to give the Pilots the road win; it's the second game-winner on the year for Wetherington.
• Kaycie Young had given the Pilots an early lead with her first career goal, which came on a rebound off a shot from Hannah Griffiths Boston in the 11th minute.
• The Bulldogs tallied the equalizer in the 21st minute.
Â
ABOUT THE PILOTS
• Saturday's game is the 300th career game at the helm of the Pilots for head coach Garrett Smith.
• Smith is a Portland men's soccer alum who has been named WCC Coach of the Year six times; he's posted a career overall record of 215-61-23 (.758) in 13-plus years, while guiding the Pilots to a remarkable 74-19-9 (.770) mark in the WCC; he led the Pilots to a national title in 2005.
• Portland sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Lusby landed WCC Player of the Week (Sept. 26) honors after registering two shutouts on the road during the week of Sept. 19-25; she made 11 saves total as the Pilots defeated both Oregon, which was No. 16 in the RPI at the time, and UC Irvine 1-0.
• Lusby has three shutouts in four starts this season and she combined with senior keeper Hanna de Haan on a fourth blank sheet.
• Lusby, who hails from nearby Beaverton, leads the WCC in shutouts per game (0.60) and is second in both goals against average (0.66) and save percentage (.857).
• De Haan, a senior from Leer, Germany, ranks first all-time at Portland in career saves per game (4.07), is ninth all-time with a career save percentage of .809, and she's 10th all-time in overall career saves with 114.
• Junior Hannah Griffiths Boston, who entered the year with two career goals, ranked in the top 20 nationally in goals earlier this season, and she currently leads the Pilots and is No. 3 in the WCC with seven goals.
• With three goals against PSU (Aug. 26), Griffiths Boston became the first Pilot to notch a hat trick since Amanda Frisbie scored four goals against Fresno State in 2012.
• The Pilots have registered two 6-0 wins this season, with both coming against opponents from the Big Sky (vs. PSU on Aug. 26 & vs. SUU on Sept. 9); Portland hasn't scored that many goals in a game twice in the same season since 2009.
• Those six goals against Portland State on Aug. 26 were the most goals scored by the Pilots in a game since tallying seven goals during a win over Saint Mary's in 2011.
• With home wins over Southern Utah and St. John's, the Pilots claimed the team title at the 2016 Nike Invitational (Sept. 2-4); senior Allison Wetherington was named the invite's offensive MVP, while Devlyn Jeter was voted the defensive MVP.
• Wetherington was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week (Sept. 4) after notching a goal and an assist vs. St. John's on Sept. 4; her goal, which was the game-winner, was a corner kick that she bent directly in.
• UP's current seniors were ranked as the No. 5 recruiting class nationally back in 2013.
• Five of Portland's seven newcomers hail from the Portland metropolitan area: Lucy Davidson (Scappoose, Ore.), Rachel Khaw (Hillsboro, Ore.), Brianna Miyama (Hillsboro, Ore.), Natalie Muth (Scappoose, Ore.) and Rylee Seekins (Vancouver, Wash.) all call the Portland/Vancouver area home, while Larkin Russell (Spokane, Wash.) and Kimberly Hazlett (Bellingham, Wash.) hail from Washington.
• The Pilots are looking to return to the playoffs in 2016 after advancing to the post-season during 21 of the past 24 seasons.
• Portland won the NCAA National Championship in 2002 and in 2005, and the 2005 team was inducted into the UP Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 1.
• Former Pilot midfielder Lisa Chambers is in her 10th year as an assistant coach, while goalkeeping coach and UP alum Angela Harrison is in her second season on the women's soccer staff.
• The Pilots have led the nation in attendance during 10 of the last 11 years.
Â
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
• The Cougars enter the weekend eighth in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, while also receiving a first-place vote; BYU is No. 4 in the most recent RPI.
• Senior forward Ashley Hatch, who leads the nation with 15 goals, will be unavailable this weekend after being called into the U.S. National Team camp.
• Junior forward Nadia Gomes is tied for third in the nation with nine assists.
• Junior keeper Hannah Clark leads the WCC in GAA (0.55), save percentage (.860) and shutouts (5).
• Head coach Jennifer Rockwood ranks 14th in the NCAA in all-time career victories with 348; she's in her 21st year at the helm of the Cougars.
