A national honor society member, she's received several academic awards and recognition, and her club team, the New Mexico Heat Elite, is ranked in the Top Five adidas teams.
Â
"Jayce is a high energy player that seems to be everywhere on the court at all times," Sorenson said. "She is a great communicator and her smile is infectious. She's a versatile player that will enable us to use her in a variety of ways."
Â
Josie Matz is a 5-10 guard and a four-year letterwinner for the Wilson High School Rams. Matz is already a three-time selection to the All-Narrows League First Team, she earned all-state honors in 2014 and she was named the 2016 Pierce County Athlete of the Year. She has earned multiple academic accolades, and she landed the 50+ Lady Ram Ace Award, which is given to the most productive player on the court per minute of play.
Â
"Josie is a player that loves the process it takes to become a great player," noted Sorenson. "Her ability to play on and off the ball will allow us to use her in a variety of different ways. She is a confident player who makes everyone around her better."
Â
Lauren Walker is a 6-5 post who's already earned three letters at Cardinal Newman High School. As a junior last season, she was named to the Cal Hi Sports Second Team All-State CIF North Coast Section, while also landing on the NCS All-Metro Team. The Cardinals, who have won the North Bay League all three years, claimed the 2016 Division 4 California State Championship, with Walker averaging 8.7 rebounds per game. A North Bay League Second Team selection as a sophomore, she landed on the all-league first team during her junior campaign, and she record the game-clinching block in that 2016 state title game. A four-time NCS Scholar Athlete, Walker was named the YSN365.com Player of the Game in 2016.
Â
"Lauren's height will add an interior paint presence both offensively and defensively," said Sorenson. "Though standing 6-5, she is incredibly agile both laterally and vertically. Somewhat unassuming on the floor, when she is fired up a fierce competitor emerges. She will be fun to coach and watch her grow and mature."
