PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland senior Eddie Sanchez was named to the 2016 NSCAA Men's Soccer All-Far West Region Team, while junior Kris Reaves and freshman Benji Michel were tabbed to the all-region third team, which was announced on Tuesday. The trio helped the Pilots win the West Coast Conference this season and return to the postseason.
Â
Sanchez, who originally hails from Canby, Ore., was also named the WCC Player of the Year, while landing on the all-league first team. Sanchez had six goals and seven assists on the season, and he notched a hat trick at Gonzaga on Oct. 9. He finishes his collegiate career as a four-time selection to the All-WCC First Team, and he's the first Pilot to be named the league's player of the year since 2003.
Â
Michel was the WCC Freshman of the Year, while also landing on the all-conference first team and the league's all-freshman team. His 10 goals and 24 points led the WCC, and he claimed four assists and two game-winners. From Orlando, Fla., Michel is UP's first league freshman of the year since Sanchez in 2013.
Â
Reaves, a transfer originally from Duluth, Ga., was an anchor on Portland's backline. He helped the Pilots collect six shutouts on the year.
