PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland men's soccer program has landed Malcolm Dixon (Montclair, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy/Virginia), who will come to The Bluff after spending a year at Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Dixon will be eligible to play right away for the Pilots and will be a sophomore in the fall.
Â
"We are happy Malcolm has joined our program here in Soccer City USA as our newest Portland Pilot," Portland head coach Nick Carlin-Voigt said. "Malcolm fully understands the team-first culture that exists in our locker room, and I know he's excited to give his best in our daily environment.
Â
"He's the fifth player in our recruiting class from an MLS academy team as the New York Red Bulls Academy has a tremendous track record of winning, while developing players. He has had a great learning experience at UVA, which is one of the elite programs not just in the ACC but across the country. I know he will be hungry to improve, while being pushed to reach new heights on The Bluff. We look forward to helping him with his development both on and off the field."
Â
Dixon played in seven matches, starting four, last fall with the Cavaliers, who were fresh off winning a national title. Dixon helped UVA reach the second round of the 2015 NCAA Playoffs.
Â
Coming out of Montclair Kimberley Academy, Dixon was ranked as the No. 5 prospect in 2015 class by College Soccer News, while Top Drawer Soccer tabbed him as the No. 29 recruit. He was a member of the United States U-14 and U-15 National Teams, and he earned one domestic cap with U.S. U-17 National Team, while appearing in multiple camps. He also earned one international cap with the Jamaica U-17 National Team and was recently called into the U-20 National Team Camp in Jamaica.Â
Â
Dixon was a three-time all-state honoree at Montclair Kimberley Academy before he decided to play with the New York Red Bulls Academy full time, which included a stint with the Red Bull reserves. During his time with the Red Bulls, Dixon helped his team win the U-14 Pre-Academy Championship, the U-16 2011-2012 National Championship and the 2011 Generation Adidas Championship. He was also named the U-15 MVP, he landed on the 2010 Super Y National Finals All-Star Team, and was tabbed for the 2011 Super Y Nationals ODP Selection National Camp.
Â
Dixon was also named to the 2013 and 2014 NSCAA Youth All-America teams, and he helped his high school squad win two NJSIAA State Championships, scoring the game-winner during the state championship match as a freshman. He finished his prep career with 25 goals and 32 assists, and he has spent time training with Aston Villa.
Â
Dixon is the second transfer to come to the Pilots from the ACC this spring, joining Kris Reaves, who will join the Pilots from Wake Forest. The two are part of a UP recruiting class that was recently named the No. 17 class in the country by Top Drawer Soccer.
