SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Portland Pilots senior guard Kaylie Van Loo was named to the 2016-17 West Coast Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team, while teammate and fellow senior guard Hannah Mattson earned all-academic honorable mention.
This is Van Loo's second straight selection to the league's all-academic team after earning honorable mention accolades a sophomore. A marketing major with a 3.71 GPA, Van Loo is having a stellar season on the hardwood, averaging a team-high 12.0 points per contest. She's second in the league in both assists (5.2 apg) and minutes played (37.0 mpg) and she's third in steals (2.0 spg). She's averaging 14.7 points during league play, and the native of Hillsboro, Ore., has scored at least 20 points in three straight games, which includes pouring in a career-best 26 points during a win at Pacific last week.
Mattson, who originally hails from Fairbanks, Alaska, has earned conference all-academic honorable mention for three straight years. She's a biology major who boasts a GPA of 3.68, and she registered career highs with 16 points and seven rebounds at Pacific last Thursday. Mattson has seven starts this season and she handed out a career-high six assists against Saint Mary's on
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
