PORTLAND, Ore. --- Dominic Doty, a native of McMinnville, Ore., who most recently was the head assistant coach at San Jose State University, is the new assistant coach for the University of Portland women's soccer program, announced first-year head coach Michelle French. While at SJSU, Doty helped the Spartans reach the 2015 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, while guiding the Spartans to numerous program records.
 
"It is not by accident that the collegiate programs Dom has been a part of have subsequently flourished following his hiring," said French. "He has an incredible eye for talent, a tireless work ethic, and a great understanding of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete. Dom's passion, knowledge, and love of the game make him a fantastic addition to the coaching staff and a great hire for the University of Portland."

Doty joined the San Jose State staff in 2014, where he was the recruiting coordinator and head of the academic oversight. In his first season on the staff, San Jose State finished 8-8-3 overall and 5-5-1 in the Mountain West conference. The mark was a vast improvement from the previous year when the team finished 3-14-1 and 2-7-1 in conference play. Under Doty's guidance the team doubled its offensive output in 2014, scoring 22 goals, which was a 12-goal improvement from 2013. The defense also saw a huge lift, only allowing 18 goals when the year before they gave up 33.

Doty joined the Spartans' coaching staff after four years as the head coach of the Linfield College women's soccer program. Doty left as the program's winningest coach in history, compiling a record of 70-28-8. During his first full season as head coach in 2009, he guided the Wildcats to their highest Northwest Conference finish in seven years.
 
In the 2010, 2011 and 2012 seasons, Linfield set school records in wins, and the team collected three-consecutive second-place conference finishes. 27 of his athletes earned all-conference honors, and four were awarded conference offensive or defensive player of the year awards.
 
Doty graduated from Santa Clara University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in management. He played for the Broncos for two seasons, helping the squad to a College Cup appearance.
