Hey Pilot fans -
It’s August, and you know what that means! It’s time for another great season of Portland women’s soccer. Before I get too far, let me introduce myself. I’m Emma Nelson, a junior defender on the aforementioned squad. I am from Mill Creek, Washington, my teammates call me Emma Bear, and I am probably best known for my (apparently) extensive and perhaps superfluous vocabulary. I am lucky enough to have the experience of another amazing season and have the privilege of taking all of you along for the ride!
Our team is like a bunch of little kids waiting for Christmas, anxiously in anticipation of our first game on Friday against Portland State under the lights on Merlo! There’s no other atmosphere quite like it, and we cannot wait to get out there. Our preseason training has done a great job of preparing us for this Friday’s matchup. The majority of the team has been here for over a month doing all we can to make sure that we reach our goals this year. After weeks of tirelessly running and lifting with our knowledgeable and dedicated coaches, our offseason training culminated with a whirlwind preseason full of two-a-days, ice baths, and the occasional recovery nap.
We have been waiting for this week since last December, and we hope that everyone shares our excitement and will join us out at Merlo this year! Whether you are there to see singing college students in kilts, Danielle Foxhoven’s celebratory salsa dancing, or simply to see some of the best soccer in the country, you’ll find it at our games. Friday night, seven o’clock, be a part of the magic!
Until next week,
Emma Nelson
