Hello Pilot Fans -
Hope you all had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the beautiful weather – at least on Saturday.
Your Portland Pilots b-ball girls had a very eventful weekend starting with Friday’s workout.
Every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday afternoon we meet Coach Jay in the weight room.
So, when 3:00 p.m. rolled around Friday afternoon Coach Jay’s workout was the final hurdle that stood between the much-anticipated weekend and us… approximately an hour of hard work with Coach Jay and then freedom!
The hour workout consisted of a circuit, which was repeated four times to simulate the four quarters in a basketball game. However, once we completed the circuit four times Coach Jay added a special surprise -- he informed us that over-time was necessary. And of course, Coach Jay always has something clever up his sleeve to add some “pizzazz” to workouts… and this week Coach Jay’s brilliant OT drill was the bear crawl.
I would like to add too that the bear crawl (or a more accurate term would be the bear run) is a rather deceptive exercise and is in fact a very tricky technique to master. Every player had her own unique strategy to get from point A to point B, though Jessica Clemens completed this challenge with such resemblance and grace – very impressive. Way to go Jess!
This weekend, just like the past few weekends started out the same as we had recruits visiting campus. It is always fun hanging out with potential teammates and showing them what life is like as a Pilot.
Their visitation also gives us an excuse to trip to Portland’s funkiest scene, Voodoo Donuts and indulge in delicious treats. Seriously, nothing captures the heart of an athlete like food!
For first time Voodoo-goers I recommend the Voodoo Doll – it’s a classic (http://voodoodoughnut.com/menu.php). Once you have tried the Voodoo Doll I suggest you venture out and try different items on the menu. I have yet to order the Bacon Maple Bar, and I’m not sure if I ever will.
I would also like to warn you that parking is limited. Keep in mind that the men in blue do not hesitate to divvy out parking tickets if you park in the no parking zone……….even if it is on accident. :)
Last, but certainly not least, we had not one, but two birthday girls this weekend – ReZina TecleMariam (known as Z) and Lauren Angel.
Below is a picture of the cake I made for their birthday. Doesn’t it look delicious? :)
Anyway, that is all for now Pilot Fans. The start of official practices is just around the corner – 4 days! I can’t wait to let you know how Practice #1 goes!
Have a great rest of the week,
Sarah
