Hey Pilot Fans!
Inspired by the MTV show “If You Really Knew Me”, this week’s blog is the start of a recurring feature that gives an inside look into our team.
If You Really Knew Us: Pilots Women’s Soccer Edition
If you really knew us, you would know that we embrace our wild sides. Yes, we are wild animals, but not in the way you might think. Take Sarah (Bridges) for instance. Sarah, very in touch with nature, has bestowed upon each of us, a spirit animal. This ambiguous term is defined by Sarah as, “A person’s inner animal that can be displayed by facial features, personal characteristics, or mannerisms.” She adds that “most people possess this inner animal, except for the few unlucky ones”. The entire freshman class is apparently part of the fortunate few, because Sarah has given a spirit animal to each one of them. Micaela is an otter, Dees is a lizard, Ellen is a fox, Nichole is a squirrel, Amanda is Winnie the Pooh (a real animal?) and Sarah herself is a wolf. Is Sarah’s talent useful? Questionable. Entertaining? Definitely.
If you really knew us, you would know
that we are obsessed with YouTube. When we aren’t playing soccer or doing homework, chances are that we are amusing ourselves with YouTube videos. It would not surprise me to discover that our team accounts for a substantial percentage of YouTube’s total views. Here are the current videos du jour selected by Keelin, Kendall, Kassi, Dani and me.
Kendall's choice,
Kassi's choice,
Keelin's choice, Dani's choice, and
my choice.
If you really knew us, you would know that the competition never stops. Somehow, some way, our team finds a way to turn everything into a contest. This attitude starts at the top with everyone’s favorite head coach, the one and only Garrett Smith. G’s favorite games are those that require the utmost skill, like his all-time preference – the dreaded quarter game. Simple enough to play, G asks someone on our team to guess the state on the quarter. If they get it right, they get the quarter. When guessing, one has to take into consideration which states have been in circulation longer, and many other factors. Some completely disregard strategy like Mo (Michelle Olivier) who always guesses Georgia, or Sophie, who doesn’t know very many states. Needless to say, to our dismay, Garrett is victorious more often than not.
We face the University of Oregon this Friday at 7 p.m.and the University of Washington on Sunday at noon. Hope to see you there!
