Greetings Pilot Fans!
Welcome to the 2012- 2013 Basketball Season. I don’t know about you, but I am very, VERY hyped!
It’s me, Philly! I can not believe a whole year has gone by. It feels like just yesterday I was arriving to the beautiful UP campus with Cassie, Kari, and Jazzy as baby freshmen. Now I am a sophomore surviving my nursing classes and loving the new year! The year is not the only thing that is new – we have a newly renovated weight room. We used it for the first time last Friday and we were all extremely excited. Along with the weight room, we have five new wonderful Pilots. Jazmyn Johnson (Jay-Jay) and Alison Ryan are guards from Texas and California. We also have three foreigners who are fitting in perfectly with the Pilot family, Ellen Nurmi and Annika Holopainen from Finland and Sara Ines Hernandez from Italy.
Where to begin? It has been a very eventful four weeks of school with weights, classes, individual practices, and open gym. However, when we are not doing these things we like to have some fun time this includes numerous activities. As G mentioned before, some of the team thought it would be fun to bake Cheez-It. The other weekend, Byrd, Erin, Cassie, Elyse and I made Cheez-It from scratch while painting our nails. I must say, both turned out better than planned. However, some of the girls were hesitant to try the crackers because they did not look too appetizing. But as the old saying goes, “you can’t judge a book by its cover.”

Aside from baking, the team is really excited about a video that Coach Jaz has graciously accepted to edit. We thought it would be a fun idea to document the year where you can see first hand what our crazy lives are like. The team watched the beginning interviews last week and I must say this video is going to be bomb! You will hear more about that later.

Finally, some of us had the privilege of baby-sitting Coach Sean’s kids for Coach’s wedding anniversary. If you do not know, Coach Sean has three adorable boys under the age of six. The boys were super funny calling us ‘ladies” because they could not remember our names and jumping around the whole night just full of energy. We had a great time watching the boys and we felt accomplished that we got them all safely in bed without injury!
Well that’s all the time I have for tonight. Stay tuned for Byrd next week. Until then, GO PILOTS!
-Philly
