Hey Pilot Fans!
As I’m sure you loyal fans know, we beat Loyola Marymount on Friday in a 2-0 victory and Pepperdine 1-0 on Sunday. Many thanks to everyone who came out to cheer us on, especially during our Project Pink game to raise breast cancer awareness!
The madness of midterm exams is finally over, and fall break has mercifully arrived! Though it was challenging to maintain focus on both soccer and studies, the week passed with the successful completion of games and tests. Fall break is a well-timed reprieve from schoolwork that gives us an opportunity to sharpen our focus on soccer, while also having time for relaxing. Some of us took full advantage of the downtime to make a trip to the pumpkin patch. The star of the excursion was Erin Dees, whose search for the perfect pumpkin knew no boundaries. While the rest of us were searching on the beaten path, Dees, ever the visionary, could be found hunting acres away. In case you don’t have a magnifying glass, Dees is the black dot in the middle of the photo.
Amanda Frisbie, on the other hand, quickly found the perfect pumpkin the second we got to the patch. Worried that someone would take this flawless pumpkin before she could come back for it, she ingeniously wrote her name on top so that future passers-by would leave it be.
Needless to say, no matter where we searched or how quickly we found our favorite, everyone left the patch with her pumpkin pick. We returned to campus and carved them outside in the crisp autumn weather, warmed by some of Mama Halley’s apple cider. In the end, we turned mere pumpkins into works of art, fame-worthy masterpieces. Since I don’t think a pumpkin museum exists (I googled it), Portland Pilots blog fame will have to be enough.
A final shout-out to Dani, who, like a true compassionate artist, chose the smallest pumpkins in the patch and drew impeccable likenesses of Disney villains on them.
Lastly, please vote for our very own Jessica Tsao for the Lowe’s Senior Class Award. Our team gets amazing fan support at our games, and we are hoping for that same support to help get Jess the recognition she deserves. As I’m sure you all know, Jess is an amazing person who truly is the epitome of a student-athlete. She is an exemplary soccer player, role model, and solver of crossword puzzles. If anyone is worthy of this award, is it Jess. Please vote for her here.
Until next time,
Emma Nelson #21
