Pilot Fans -
The weekend started out rough as we lost to the number one ranked Stanford 2-0. The game was a good game to see where we stand when compared to the top team in the country. We had times of good possession and one great scoring opportunity that we were unable to capitalize on. Then after two days off we were able to recover and beat USC 2-1. Micaela Capelle was able to get to the end line and cut the ball back toward the center of the goal twice as Ellen Parker finished the first goal 3 minutes into the game, and Amanda Frisbie put away the second early in the second half.
This weekend we will be on the road for both of our games as we travel down to Los Angeles. On Thursday night we will be playing the mighty Anteaters of UC Irvine at 7 pm. Then, we will be playing at Cal State Northridge on Sunday at 2pm. The Sunday game will have a little bit of extra meaning to Michelle Cruz because her sister—Nicole Cruz—plays on Northridge.
When I am bored or procrastinating doing my homework, I often find myself on StumbleUpon (http://www.stumbleupon.com/). StumbleUpon is a website that allows you to find other interesting or weird websites. Recently I stumbled upon a website that allowed you to type in your name and it would give you the meaning of your name. Intrigued, I typed my name in and learned that my name meant Ireland. Needless to say, I had to type in the names of my teammates to see what their names meant (to look up your name go to http://www.name-meanings.com/search.php). What I found was very interesting:
Sarah - Princess
Ellen - Light
Amanda - Worthy of Love
Michelle - Who is like God?
Emily - Admiring
Rebekah - Bound
Taylor - Tailor
Kendall - Valley of the River Kent
Danielle - God is My Judge
Emma - Universal
Apparently Micaela’s, Lorielle’s, Malloy’s, Kaila’s, Cloee’s, Kassi’s, Halley’s, and Hailee’s names do not mean anything because they did not come up in the search.
My favorite name meaning might be Nichole’s because her name means Victorious. Let’s hope that this holds true this weekend.
Until next time,
Erin Dees
