Hey Pilot Fans,
Hooray! Yesterday was our last early practice of the season. I remember when Jess entered the training room on the first day of practice and reminded us all that we had 34 more early mornings to look forward to. Congrats ladies, we did it!
Believe it or not, out of the 35 early practices no one was late. Granted, we had our fair share of “just jumped out of bed” hairdos, (which I cease to point fingers because I am aware that my hairstyle is among the wildest in the mornings :) ) and surprisingly, only one “oh my gosh, where is Suz?!?!” scare.
When Suz's phone went directly to voicemail desperate actions were executed immediately. I raced to Suz's house, barged into her bedroom to find her peacefully asleep. Bearing in mind that (1) I was about to present Suz the most terrifying wake-up call of her life, and (2) she is as blind as a bat and would most certainly be extremely confused and startled by me, the dark figure in her room, I decided the best way to approach this situation was to break the news to her gently. The interaction went something like this:
Me: (lighty shaking Suz) Umm Suz, it’s me, G…
Suz: (grumble) Huh?
Me: (light-moderate shake) Umm hey Suz, we have practice.
Suz: WHAT?!?
Suz leaped out of bed, stumbled through her room, flew out the door and was sprinting down the street towards Chiles within a matter of seconds. By 6:45 a.m. sharp Suz, along with the rest of the team was ready to go! Now that’s what I call clutch!
Today the team hits the road. First stop, Bozeman, Mont. to play the Bobcats and then to Missoula to take on the Grizzlies. Both should be good games! Good luck, Pilots! I will be thinking of you and watching you on the
Webcast.
Announcement: I’ve decided to add a special segment on Pilot Nicknames. I’ve noticed that I’ve been tossing around several nicknames in my blogs, which I am sure has created some confusion. So, I’d like to do my best to clarify who I am talking about and explain the origin of the nicknames. First and foremost, I might as well start with myself.
Nickname
I briefly mentioned in my first blog that I have many nicknames. Rule of thumb - any variation of
the following terms will result in a name that I will most likely respond: “lil,” “G,” “ma,” “Sarah,” and Coach has even thrown “Z” into the pot.
For example: Lil G, Sarahg, Lil Z, etc.
Origin
Z actually dubbed me as “Lil G” last year. Since there were two Sarah’s on the team (me and Sarah Klewier, aka Suz) Z decided to make matters less confusing.
“There were two Sarah’s on the team so I decided to change things up. So, compared to the other Sarah you were shorter and your last name is Griffin, so I was like Lil G – and it stuck!”
–Z’s response when I asked her how I got the name Lil G
Well, that is all for now. I look forward to catching up with y’all next week! I forgot to mention that finals are next week – wish us luck! Have a great week!
LETS GO PILOTS!
