Pilot Fans ---
Wow, I cannot thank all of you that traveled down to our game enough. It was amazing. It actually felt like a home game with the Villa Drummers chanting and all of the other fans cheering as we warmed up. It really meant a lot to all of us that you guys would come and support us like that. So I thank you again. For those of you that missed the game, I have written a little poem to recap it for you.
Battle in Corvallis
By Dees
On a cold a rainy night,
The Beavers and Pilots prepared to fight.
The fans were lined up,
Sipping hot coco out of Styrofoam cups.
1,500 gathered around the field,
To see if the Pilots could wield,
The physical play of OSU.
Deep down the Pilots knew,
That they could win this game,
Because the Beaver’s could be tamed.
The first half was dominated by defense,
But one could sense,
That this game would not end zero-zero.
There would be at least one hero.
In the second half OSU scored,
And the crowd roared,
But the Pilots did not give in,
They still knew that they could win.
And Frisbie knew it the most,
As she shot the ball past the post.
The Pilots erupted,
And OSU was alerted,
That this game was not over yet,
And that one team needed to put the ball into the back of the net.
And with the whistle’s chime,
Regulation would end and the game would go into overtime.
Twenty minutes it would last,
With last years past,
In the back of the Pilot’s minds.
They did not want to find,
Themselves in a repeat of last year.
This year there would be no tears,
Because in penalty kicks they would win,
And lift up their chins,
And shout to the world,
Through all the cold,
That we have won,
And FSU we are not done.
With the first round done, we are headed into the second round to play Florida State in Memphis, Tennessee on Friday. Now through my experience on the west coast I have come to learn that many people who live here have a mindset that anything east of Colorado is on the east coast. I am sorry to say that this is false, and I have provided a map of the United States so that you can see where we will be playing.
Memphis is located north of New Orleans and written in blue. Now, for those of you fans that are interested in attending the game next Friday, it is about a 34 hour drive from Portland or a 500 dollar plane ticket. But once you get there, there is a variety of things to do in the hours you are not watching us play. To see the attractions, visit
http://www.memphistravel.com/. I would suggest seeing Graceland, it was definitely worth the trip when I went there. For those of you that do not make the trip, I am sure that there will at least be audio to listen to the game (Editor's note: Memphis will provide free
video & audio).
Until next week,
Dees
